Monday Mayhem

Monday wouldn’t truly be Monday if things went as planned. It’s been an exhausting day to say the least and my night is not nearly over yet!

My workout today was one of the hardest I have had to date. We will see if I can walk tomorrow!

This week is Restaurant week in Madison. Yes, yes, yes!

This restaurant is at the top of my list.

Check out some snip-its from my weekend on Instagram.

I’m personally proud of my latest Baked Cod dinner the boyfriend and I had on Friday. So, so easy to make and so delicious!

NY Fashion Week is almost two weeks away! This is the first year in three years I won’t be there for my birthday.  (See here , and here)  On the flipside, this will be the first year in three years I get to celebrate with the boyfriend and people I love.

I am planning to make it out for September’s fashion week.

So far, my New Year Resolutions are going as planned. I need to kick up my reading game a bit though. Not much time left for me to finish 50 Shades of Grey.

See you on Wednesday!

Sincerely,

THE GIRL IN THE YELLOW CAB

Simon Spurr | Milk Studios

New York Fashion Week No Comments by girlintheyellowcab

My experiences at Milk Studios are always great ones, especially when it happens to be your birthday. We were greeted with champagne and h’orderves while we waited for the great Ric Pipino to give us a few color and hair tips. Waiting for a show to start is one of the greatest and exciting feelings. I wish I could just bottle up that energy and have it with me always. It gives me goosebumps! The tailored menswear Spurr brings to the runway is truly amazing. Tiny details that were even hard to see from the runway were the alligator and leather trims along lapels and cuffs. I personally loved the leather pants, gloves, and deep burgundy color palette he sprinkled throughout his collection. When we went backstage to meet the designer, I was pleasantly surprised at how humble, down to earth, and thankful he was for everyone that attended. Spurr even joked that Joe Jonas flew himself to the show because he couldn’t afford his airfare. See his full collection here.

Around the City

New York, New York Fashion Week No Comments by girlintheyellowcab

This past week when I was in NY, we spent a lot of time walking around the city. Whether it was to brunch, shopping or a show, we were on our feet. The weather was pretty nice (compared to Midwest standards) and I came across some great things. Like finding a Dolce and Gabbana Blazer on my birthday for mere pennies of what they retail for. I slipped it on and it fit like a dream. Completely made my day!

Jetting off to NYC

With a two page long packing list (typed), I hope I have everything. Blazers, furs, blouses, dresses, boots, pumps – I’m surprised I can manage to fit it all. I can’t wait for NYC to engulf me in the madness of fashion week, shopping, wining, dining, and a little birthday celebrating. Let the madness begin!

Bangin’ Booties

New York Fashion Week 1 Comment by girlintheyellowcab

If there is one thing that I consistently fall in love with, it’s a pair of shoes. I’m a firm believer that having too many shoes is well, impossible. I came across these beauties in Soho when I was in New York for fashion week and had to have them. These Matiko booties have become my go-to’s this season and easily go from day to night. Pairing them with a great blazer or fur vest makes for a killer office look while changing into some leggings and leather shorts makes for a girls night out.

Strolling Through Soho

Soho is one of my favorite places in New York City. And not just for the great shopping it offers, but for the awesome architecture. I make it a point to head to Soho everytime I’m in NY to stop at my favorite boutiques, street vendors, cafe, and walk the cobblestone streets admirning all of the architecture. If I had a choice of anywhere in the United States to live, hands down it would be Soho.

Vintage Gems

New York Fashion Week, Travel No Comments by girlintheyellowcab

One of the things that made me fall in love with the East Village is the homey feel it exudes when walking along the streets. While there is still the hustle and bustle of New York City, there are antique, vintage, and consignment shops galore. This makes for great shopping in my book. I think I became obsessed with finding vintage Chanel handbags and shoes, Louis bags that were adored for years, and Michael Kors sweaters.

Sunday Daydreams

Brunch has been on my to-do list every trip I make to NY. Somehow, something always comes up and I never make it. However, this trip was a success. Lets just say that I could do this every Sunday; sitting outside on a brisk afternoon with an over-sized sweater, drinking coffee, people watching, and eating a Latin-style brunch in the homey east village.

{vintage inspired bikes that I would love}

{Delicious french toast covered with fruit}

{They left our bill with this awesome postcard. So cute}

New York Fashion Week

I just got back from NY Fashion Week yesterday and I always leave feeling so refreshed and motivated. New York is a city that completely brings me back to life in itself, so you can only imagine the extra oomph fashion week adds.  I love finding finding raw trends and observing how every individual and designer interprets them differently. As much as I love the fashion shows, cat walk, press, models, photographers, and high anticipation before each and every show, nothing beats the street talent of individuals that style themselves simply for the love and art of fashion.

Favorites From the Runway | NYFW 2011

I had to put a post together of some of my favorite shows and looks from New York Fashion Week. There was exceptional talent this year on the runway and looks I just wanted to get my little fingers on.

One of my favorites, hands down, is Alexander Wang. I love that his looks are bold statement pieces that the confident fashionista can be fabulous in. I wish I could have been in NYC for the opening of his flagship store in Soho the weekend after fashion week!

Another one of my favorites was from Halston. I know Marios Schwab received some scrutiny for the line. I heard some pieces were wrinkled and seemed to be made out of cheap material. From the pics, I really enjoyed it. Some great pieces.

I forgot how much I loved The Row. Mary Kate and Ashley Olson do an impeccable job. You can just tell that tailoring was a major focal point when designing their line, along with high-quality materials and craftsmanship.

Michael Kors celebrated his 30 years in business this fashion week and got rave reviews! I truly had a hard time choosing my favorite pieces! Not only did I love the color palette, but the sleekness of the suits, jumpsuits, and cocktail dresses.
