Oscars | Best Dressed

Best Dressed No Comments by girlintheyellowcab

Last night I tuned into the 85th Annual Academy Awards. The Red Carpet is usually my favorite part of an award show because it’s a chance to see the celebrities in raw form without a movie script or character in tow. The Oscars naturally bring glitz and glamour, but this year I saw a lot of beautiful textures with a variety of beads and embellishments. This was juxtaposed by other gowns that were bare in the glitz department, but embodied sharp and bold linear representations to make a statement. One of my favorites is Jane Fonda who wowed in a stunning bright yellow canary Versace gown. The fabric from her dress was found in Milan and the entire dress was only constructed days before the Oscars. Props!

Best Dressed From the Golden Globes

Sunday Night I tuned into the Golden Globes. It was an award show I can say I truly enjoyed with Tina Fey and Amy Poehler as hosts. Overall, I was loving the fashion that the stars brought. I saw a lot of plunging necklines, mermaid styles, and simple yet elegant hair styles. My two top favorites (because I couldn’t choose) were Kate Hudson and Taylor Swift. This is the first time Nicole Kidman made my Best Dressed List-I loved her in Alexander McQueen.

ACM Awards Best Dressed

Best Dressed No Comments by girlintheyellowcab

I usually tun into award shows for one main reason-the fashion. However, when it comes to any country music award show, I love to watch for the music and performances. Country music is the root of who I am and the first genre of music I was exposed to as a little girl. Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Nettles and T-Swift have made my Best Dressed Lists before and continue to do so! I was really impressed with the stars that incorporated current trends like pairing bright neon colors together.

Oscar Best Dressed

The main reason I watch an award show is to view the stellar (usually) ensembles that the celebs have deemed red carpet worthy. Below are a few of my favorites from Sunday’s Oscars that included Cameron Diaz and Octavia Spencer. I can’t get over how well Octavia continually dresses to fit her figure. This cap sleeve gown with an empire waist is perfection. See my last year’s Best/Worst Dress here. {Cameron Diaz in Gucci}

{Octavia Spencer in Tadashi Shoji}

{Nancy O’ Dell}

{Jessica Chastain in Alexander McQueen}

{Mila Jovovich in Elie Saab Couture}

Spring Inspirations

It’s been feeling a lot like Spring with the mid 40 degree weather until the blizzard we had yesterday! Snow, ice,  and freezing rain really put a damper on my ’think warm’ motto. In the meantime, I’ve made an effort to keep the  talk of Spring current and so have some fellow bloggers. Below are a few blogs I frequent and some great looks sure to make one wish they had a trip booked to Cabo.

ACM Awards 2011 | Best and Worst Dressed

Best Dressed, fashion No Comments by girlintheyellowcab

The 46th Annual American Country Music Awards were on this past Sunday night and as you know, I absolutely love to watch for the great fashion! Not only that but I absolutely adore country music. Country artists have ways of telling stories through their music that no other genre is even comparable.

Every time I write a best and worst dressed list, I ask myself, “do you (as a celebrity) dress for the red carpet or for the press?” That’s a hard question because a dress could look fabulous on the red carpet, but photograph horribly. I personally, would dress for the press. Those pictures stick around a lot longer than a vision of you walking down the red carpet.

BEST DRESSED:

Carrie Undeerwood looked beautiful in this deep purple Jean Fares gown. I’m not sure she has ever seen my worst dressed list. Although, I do agree with some of critics that the dress should have emphasized her figure more instead of being so loose.

Julianne Hough looks stunning in this coral number. The low back is perfect for this fit bombshell and is accessorized beautifully with gold.

Laura Bell Bundy made me say, “wow” in this Jean Fares gown. (Noticing a designer pattern?) The intricate design that expands as the dress flows into a mermaid style does the trick.

This Ellis Saab gown is so Taylor. It’s romantic and quite the showstopper. The light yellow with her flowing locks adds the perfect touch.

WORST DRESSED:

Nicole Kidman, once again is on my worst dressed list. Is that a fur shawl, in April?

Emily West is definitely on my worst dressed list with this too long, tacky Cinderella look-alike gown.

Wynonna and Naomi Judd look like mother and daughter just as much as they should be on the worst dressed list. The leather get up couldn’t be more opposite than Naomi’s bad version of a Mother of the Bride gown.

Don’t get me wrong, this BCBGMaxAzria dress and blazer is super cute. But, something I would wear out to dinner on a Friday or to a cocktail party. Definitely not to a red carpet event.

Oscars | Best and Worst Dressed

Best Dressed, Celebrities No Comments by girlintheyellowcab

So, I thought that this Monday could continue with my usual Monday Mayhem. I totally forgot that the Oscar’s were on, and of course had to substitute Monday Mayhem for the Best and Worst Dressed List. I was pleasantly surprised when configuring my list that there were far more best dressed than worst. Unfortunately, for those that have been on my worst dressed list before will find themselves appearing on it again.

BEST DRESSED:

Celine Dion is absolutely breathtaking in this Giorgio Armani gown. The  deep neck line looks very nice and is played off well by covering her arms and legs. Celine definitely knows how to dress her hour-glass figure.

Scarlett Johanson wowed me in this Dolce and Gabbana lace gown. The cut-out and natuarl hair make this look very fun, sexy, and sweet. Not to mention I love the color!

Gwyneth Paltrow was also featured on my Best Dressed List from the Grammy Awards. Wow, has she got it going on in this Calvin Klein gown. The high slit compiments the same slit neck-line very well. Her straight gold locks also add to the simplicity of the dress.

This was honestly one of my favorites. Mila Kunis in this Elie Saab gown is just everything an Oscar gown should be. The lilac and lace are just beautiful! Very sweet and soft for the Black Swan star.

Originally, Sandra Bullock was on my worst dressed list. That was as of last night. However, this morning I thought that she photographed beautifully in this Vera Wang gown. She could have used a light Pre-Oscar glow so the tomato red wasn’t such a shocker next to her light skin. But the back of this dress is stunning and her up-do is the perfect way to give all of the attention to the gown.

Amy Adam in this L’Wren Scott  gown is beautiful. I love the shocking dark blue color of this dress. However, I’m not a fan of the Cartier necklace. I would never wear a necklace with that neckline and I was hoping for some cascading earrings. Actually maybe just some studded earrings with her flowing locks.

Is it possible for the same person to be on both my best and worst dressed list? I guess it is when you have eight wardrobe changes. I personally loved Anne Hathaway as the host of the Oscars last night. She was so sweet and charming. You could tell she was so excited to be there. I had my favorites and my least favorites of her wardrobe choices for the night. This one, was definitely one of my favorites.

WORST DRESSED:

Nicole Kidman, once again, made my worst dressed list along with many others. This Asian-inspired gown is just so not flattering. Critics have been saying it’s way too busy. I have to agree, but would also add the awful color. It’s just not Oscar-worthy and looks like something that would be better placed on a sale rack!  Keith Urban, however, is a great accessory.

Jennifer Hudson in this tangerine Versace dress is one of my worst dressed. I truly love the design of the dress and if it wasn’t for the material looking so cheap, she would have been on my best dressed list. It totally took away from the beauty of the gown. But, I have to give it to her for the show-stopping color!

I thought I was going to be the only one who didn’t like this dress after all of the positive tweets I was reading last night. But, I’ve found Cate Blanchett on a few worst dressed lists, along with mine. I’m just not a fan of the cutout top thats framing her boobs. It’s not flattering.

Florence Welch is once again gracing my worst dressed list. This vintage inspired dress is just-yuck. The color makes her completely unnoticeable.

I know that this Dior gown worn by Sharon Stone was a favorite among many. However, it did nothing for me! It reminds me of Cruella Deville with the large feather applique on her right shoulder and her over-the-top poof.

This was my least favorite of Anne Hathaway’s wardrobe choices. For one, it looks like it’s extremely hard to move in and reminds me of something that should be worn on the Star Wars space ship.

Grammy Awards | Best and Worst Dressed

Best Dressed, Celebrities No Comments by girlintheyellowcab

Millions of people tuned into the the 53rd Grammy Awards last night whether you were watching for the drama, the fashion, the celebrities, or the performances. I have my favorite fashions for the Grammy’s and I also have my not-so-favorite. In terms of the performances last night- off the hook. My favorites were, in no specific order: Jaden Smith with Bieber and Usher, Eminem and Rihanna, and Gwyneth Paltrow and Cee Low Green. Now onto the juicy stuff.

Best Dressed:

I know there was a lot of buzz about Miley Cyrus and her dress with all of the bangles and bracelets. I absolutely loved it and is one of my favorites for the night. From the hair, to the dress, to the accessories it was great. I would totally wear this.

Jennifer Hudson was absolutely perfect in her Grammy stunner and new body. Wow. I love how she plays up the straps in her gown with the ones on her shoes. Beautiful.

Gwyneth Paltrow didn’t walk the red carpet, but when she came out for the duo performance with Cee Low Green, she looked insanely fabulous. Can you believe she is almost 40? If I could look half that good at age 40. Oh, and those shoes. Bow chica wow wow.

Jaden Smith, what an absolute cutie on stage! Loved the cheetah pants. Proud parents were in the crowd as Will Smith mouthed, “That’s my baby” during his performance with Bieber and Usher.

J-Lo was looking hot at the Grammys showing off one of her best assets- those legs.  And those shoes, yeoow. Love it!

Kim Kardashian is always a bombshell. But this gold gown with nude shoes-wow. Pre-Grammy Awards Kardashian actually couldn’t fit the dress over her butt. Thanks to her fabulous stylist, it was altered in time for the red carpet. You’d never know!

Worst Dressed:

Gretchin, Gretchin, Gretchin. This is a red carpet event, not a night out at the club. Totally inappropriate for the Grammy’s.

I think Nicki Minaj thinks she is Lady Gaga. Like what is this?

Okay, I love this powerhouse couple! But, Nicole Kidman is hardly ever one on my best dressed lists. She has a great figure and should work it with something more visually appealing.

Florence Welch is on my worst dressed lists for sure. This entire ensemble just makes me cringe. Whoever, it is a great color for her.

Christina Aguilera hasn’t been having a good couple of weeks. I thought her Super Bowl outfit was sloppy, and so was her performance. But, last night her performance was very powerful-maybe a bit too much, but her wardrobe just lacked again. I think the hair did it for me.

CMA Awards 2010-Best and Worst Dressed

Best Dressed, CMA Awards 3 Comments by girlintheyellowcab

Last night I tuned in to the 44th Annual Country Music Awards hosted by the fabulous duo, Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood. Country music has been apart of my life since I was a little girl, in large part because my Dad is a huge country music fan. Certain songs bring me back to the summer days my Dad and I would spend out in the garage together. I’d be sucking on my popsicle trying to reach the top drawer of his tool chest, and he’d be sawing away at a new project. My dad is an amazing craftsman and I swear when certain country songs by Garth Brooks or Tim McGraw come on, I can still smell the saw dust.

Anyways, back to the awards. I loved the little snip-its Brad and Carrie performed about the scandalous Brett Favre and Tiger Woods. It was definitely appreciated by the crowd as well. But, as much as I look forward to the CMA’s every year, not for just the music but for the fashion, I was very disappointed with some of the wardrobe choices.

LeeAnn Rimes. Love the shoes, not the dress. Even though she has great legs, that deserve to be shown off, the dress looks cheap and thoughtless. The awards are meant to make a statement and unfortunately this dress didn’t do it for me.

Leighton Meester. She looks like she’s still in her Halloween costume as Jane of the Jungle, not coming out for awards night. The pattern of her dress and crazy hair are too much. There’s a fine line between going for a wild look and looking sloppy.

Little Big Town. The group would look fabulous if it wasn’t for that awful red velvet dress. The cut and drape makes her look a lot bigger than she actually is. I understand that velvet is in this fall, but I don’t think this is what the experts were talking about.

Gretchen Wilson. This ensemble is far too casual for the CMA Awards. If you looks closely you can tell it’s a sweater. Since when do you wear a knit sweater to the CMA’s?

___
Okay, so enough with the bad and the ugly. Lets get to the good because even though there were some bad wardrobe choices, there were also some fabulous ones.

Julianne Hough. Now this is a girl who knows how to make a statement. Absolutely stunning dress on her tiny figure.

Laura Bell Bundy. I absolutely love this dress. It’s so over the top and would definitely be my choice if I was attending an award show. The glitz accompanied by her skin tone, lip stick, and hair color exudes perfection.

Lady Antebellum. The trio looked stunning last night with matching bow tie tuxes for Dave Haywood and Charles Kelley. They were accented beautifully with Hillary Scott’s bold red gown. The dress accentuates her curves and makes her dark hair pop.

Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton. This gown was my favorite of Ms. soon to be Mrs. Lambert-or should I say Shelton? It’s flowy and accentuates the right curves. Although, the dress would be more flattering if it were strapless or a halter. This specific cut makes her arms appear larger than they are because they are pressed down by the strap. Regardless of their wardrobes, both singers had a fabulous night. As Brad Paisley said, “with the night Miranda and Blake are having, we should be expecting a baby in about nine months.”

Gwyneth Paltrow. At first, I wasn’t sure how I felt about this dress. Although, after I looked at it for a little while longer, it grew on me. The asymmetrical drape and cut-out of her dress evens out nicely on the opposite side with the flow of her blonde hair.

Carrie Underwood. I am a huge fan of hers. I absolutely loved her wardrobe choices last year, but this year, I just felt they were mediocre. They didn’t make me say, “wow” and I can recall wincing a couple of times. She pulls off this gown above very well, not many could wear that. And I love how she isn’t wearing any jewelry, the dress does it all.

Can’t wait for next year-have a great night!

Sincerely,

Vogue’s Top 10 Best Dressed

Best Dressed, fashion No Comments by girlintheyellowcab

Vogue’s Top 10 Best Dressed is a must see. These ladies are on top of it, for this week at least. Some obvious fashionistas are Michelle Obama, Blake Lively, Liv Tyler, and Angelina Jolie. The rest are developing a footprint in the minds of the fashion conscious.

NOTE: These pictures are not from this week’s fashion spotting, but are fashion worthy.

#1. Michelle Obama

Ms. Obama has made a serious increase in J.Crew’s sales after being photographed in a few of their pieces. Her style is definitely the image of J.Crew. The next Jackie Kennedy.

#2. January Jones

#3. Blake Lively

This girl can wear anything with that body.

#4. Jessica Biel

#5. Nicole Kidman

Her style is so sleek and sexy. Previously the face of Chanel. She pulls it off.

#6. Poppy Delevingne

#7. Kate Moss

Not normally the first woman that would pop into my mind as a trend setter. Apparently she made it happen this week!

#8. Karlie Kloss

#9. Liv Tyler

This dress is too safe. Events are all about bringing your best. Come on Liv.

#10. Angelina Jolie

Check out the wardrobes that got the ladies into Vogue’s Top 10 HERE
