Spring Sensations

fashion, Spring '12 Trends No Comments by girlintheyellowcab

Even though the Midwest has had a rather ‘warm’ winter, I am pumped for all of the great Spring pieces out this season. My style tends to change depending on my mood, but this Spring I’m feeling a lot of bright colored denim crops, scarves, Ray Ban’s, oxfords, and chambray. For a color palette, I’m trending towards pop colors light Robin Egg Blues, Fuchsia Pinks, and Grapefruit reds while combining them with muted and classic colors like tan, black and gray. (PS: Did you know “gray” is how the color is spelled in America and “grey” with an E is how it’s spelled in England? Me either!)

3. Colored Denim Ankle Crop – Anthropologie
4. Multi Colored Sandal – Aldo
5. Knit Scarf – Anthropologie

Spring is in the Air

I am in love with the Lands’ End Canvas new Spring ’12 line. Gingham and Chambray Shirts, knit sweaters, chinos, and oxfords give me a warm fuzzy feeling inside. Going out to brunch or spending a casual day shopping, you can’t go wrong with any of these looks. For either I would wear the chambray shirt, paired with chinos, some oxfords, and a bright pea coat for the right color pop. I’m also loving the color palette–muted, soft pinks, taupes and blues with a few brights intermixed.

Pink Friday

fashion No Comments by girlintheyellowcab

What better way to end the week with “Pink Friday” (no pun intended) from Nicki Minaj’s new O.P.I. Collection. For New Years Eve, I wanted a super feminine color to go with my ensemble. I wore a leather cap-sleeved dress with black spiked heels from Rachel Roy. So, some girlyness was severely needed. O.P.I. nail polish is one of the best on the market and Minaj’s new line was no exception. And of course, my latest manicures aren’t complete without a little ring finger sparkle.

Happy Friday!

These Boots are Made for Walkin’

fashion No Comments by girlintheyellowcab

This weekend my girlfriends and I went to see one of our favorite country singers perform at Summerfest-Jason Aldean. Wow, does he put on a great concert! He is one performer that I would definitely see again and again. But, our wardrobes wouldn’t be complete without a few sundresses and cowgirl boots. What makes it even better, those studded cowgirl boots are vintage! My girlfriend raided her mom’s closet and found her boots from 25+ years ago. I would kill for those!

Taupe Heaven

Yesterday was a scorcher outside. At one point, the temperature read 106 degrees! So I thought, what’s more perfect than a light, cotton cinched dress to bear the heat? It’s so comfortable and versatile. Wear it when your out in the afternoon or even to a casual dinner date, which is exactly what I did. I also love putting an edge on my outfit choices, hence the studded belt. And what’s even better, it’s one of those Forever 21 finds that I use all the time.

Memorial Day Weekend

fashion, Wining and Dining No Comments by girlintheyellowcab

Memorial Day Weekend went by way too fast for me, but what weekend doesn’t? The weather was absolutely beautiful, except when it decided to rain on our tailgating party at the Brewer’s Game of course. However, making a pit stop at this pub was a great choice-best Bloody Mary bar ever. All in all, the weekend was great and I noticed many little things that reminded me summer is definitely here! Yesss.

Some beautiful flowers I captured over the weekend. I’d have to say Lilacs are one of my favorite flowers.

I’ve always been a burger lover, and I can’t believe I had not eaten at Fred’s Burger in Burlington, WI before. It is said that they have the world’s best burger (I will definitely vouch for that one) and people travel from all corners of the world to have a taste.

Yum, yum, yum! Homemade curly fries and everything.

A little Brewer spirit!

I hope everyone had a great Memorial Day Weekend and took the time to remember the men and women who served and are still serving for our freedom!

Sincerely,

Jewelry Fetish

fashion No Comments by girlintheyellowcab

Some may say that I have a jewelry fetish. I personally just like to have a variety of choices when it comes to pairing the right jewelry with the right outfit. Often times, I feel like I have nothing in my jewelry collection. (I’m sure everyone can relate to that feeling at one point or another). Below is a little sample of my jewelry armoire. I hope to display everything a little bit better one day but for now, this does the job!

This ring is one of my favorite pieces for two reasons: one, it’s an antique from 1958. And two, it was given to me from my grandmother.

These little pendants have definitely become another one of my favorite pieces. The gold purse charm was a gift from my parents for my 18th birthday and the letter “B” I bought from a street vendor in New York.

Trends: A Blast From The Past

fashion, Wardrobe Essentials 2 Comments by girlintheyellowcab

I love recurring trends. Trends that were popular when my parents and grandparents were young twenty-somethings come back around and are popular once again! I especially get a kick out of it when my grandma spots me in my latest ensemble and says, “oh my goodness, that was popular when I was young!” Fashion is awesome in that way. You know what they say, history always repeat itself.

ACM Awards 2011 | Best and Worst Dressed

Best Dressed, fashion No Comments by girlintheyellowcab

The 46th Annual American Country Music Awards were on this past Sunday night and as you know, I absolutely love to watch for the great fashion! Not only that but I absolutely adore country music. Country artists have ways of telling stories through their music that no other genre is even comparable.

Every time I write a best and worst dressed list, I ask myself, “do you (as a celebrity) dress for the red carpet or for the press?” That’s a hard question because a dress could look fabulous on the red carpet, but photograph horribly. I personally, would dress for the press. Those pictures stick around a lot longer than a vision of you walking down the red carpet.

BEST DRESSED:

Carrie Undeerwood looked beautiful in this deep purple Jean Fares gown. I’m not sure she has ever seen my worst dressed list. Although, I do agree with some of critics that the dress should have emphasized her figure more instead of being so loose.

Julianne Hough looks stunning in this coral number. The low back is perfect for this fit bombshell and is accessorized beautifully with gold.

Laura Bell Bundy made me say, “wow” in this Jean Fares gown. (Noticing a designer pattern?) The intricate design that expands as the dress flows into a mermaid style does the trick.

This Ellis Saab gown is so Taylor. It’s romantic and quite the showstopper. The light yellow with her flowing locks adds the perfect touch.

WORST DRESSED:

Nicole Kidman, once again is on my worst dressed list. Is that a fur shawl, in April?

Emily West is definitely on my worst dressed list with this too long, tacky Cinderella look-alike gown.

Wynonna and Naomi Judd look like mother and daughter just as much as they should be on the worst dressed list. The leather get up couldn’t be more opposite than Naomi’s bad version of a Mother of the Bride gown.

Don’t get me wrong, this BCBGMaxAzria dress and blazer is super cute. But, something I would wear out to dinner on a Friday or to a cocktail party. Definitely not to a red carpet event.
