DIY Jewelry Holder

DIY No Comments by girlintheyellowcab

I have been on the search for a jewelry armoire for quite some time. I wanted something that served as not only a holder, but a display that could become part of my decor. I had a few simple rules: 1. If I was going to spend money on piece of furniture, it needed to be worth it. None of this $400 for a “wood” jewelry armoire that my fingernail would dent. 2. I wanted it be simple (no flower appliques painted on the side) and 3. Didn’t cost me an arm and a leg. Needless to say, I didn’t find it. So what better Idea than to make my own inspired from Pinterest? At a final cost of $48.00, I believe this piece will be one that I keep on display.

FYI: I highly recommend using a fabric like burlap that has a very loose construction. This makes it easiest to apply the knob holes whether you choose to make them before or after you staple the fabric.

{Supplies: Wood Panel (I purchased from Home Depot), Choice of fabric (I chose burlap from my local fabric store), variety of knobs (purchased at Hobby Lobby on sale), pair of scissors, stable gun, staples, screws, and pack of wall hangers}

{Cut your fabric to the size of your wood panel. Remember to leave at least 3 extra inches for stapling to the back of the panel}

{Pull tightly and begin to staple around the entire border}

{Spread knobs in desired position and measure to make sure they are center/spread equally from each other. Because I chose burlap fabric, I was able to make little holes with my pencil onto the wood so the boyfriend could drill exactly where I wanted them.}

{Screw knobs onto the wood plank and hang jewelry}

DIY Wedding Avenue

DIY No Comments by girlintheyellowcab

I’ve been helping my best friend plan her wedding since we were in high school with imaginary husbands. It is safe to say we have read through every bridal and wedding magazine in Barnes & Noble. Her wedding is in June and I can’t believe it’s just around the corner. As we round the final turn and make finishing touches to her Bridal Shower, Bachelorette Party and Big Day, I’ve come to realize a few things:

1. Make DIY project realistic. If they are, you will be ten times happier with the outcome.
2. Themes are great only if you stick to them. We’re using this theme for her bridal shower.
3. Keep Organized. I’ve used an Excel Spreadsheet to store her guest lists.
4.  Homemade desserts and h’ourderves trump catered food.
5. Pay attention to detail. Your guests will notice the little things you did to make them feel special and welcome.

Bridal Shower

DIY No Comments by girlintheyellowcab

One of my best friends is getting married this June. She is the first of many friends to come who will soon be planning their own weddings. The planning for her bridal shower has begun and the theme is what I’m super excited about. It’s going to have a very southern, rustic, sweet home Alabama type feel. Mason jars for centerpeices, lemonade with colorful straws, rustic birdcages for decoration, old barnwood and brooches. I’m obsesssed with the brooch bouquet and DIY jewelred napkin holders. Below are just a few of the loads of inspriation I’ve found. I can’t wait to see it all come together.

Making Memories

DIY No Comments by girlintheyellowcab

Pinterest has become almost as big as Facebook, in my opinion. I love this site. It’s amazing how many unique and creative people are out there that inspire me and even my material for blog posts. I found this adorable project and had to do it myself. Grab a mason jar, mark it with the year 2012, and write down on slip of paper those memories you want to remember.  When New Years Eve comes, read through them.

I’ve already added a few: one of my girls weekend the in January-I swear we did nothing but laugh. We wrote down all of our “blonde” (I’m blonde, so I can say that) quotes on the way home. These needed to be documented. The second is the weekend I spent with Joel on our mini-vacay for our anniversary. I’m looking forward to adding more.

Sincerely,
